Here's What You'll Learn

This is the third and final course in the “Christ-Centered Preaching” seminary track that explores the rationale for, and methods of, Christ-centered preaching.

The first course in this series, entitled “Preparation and Delivery of Sermons,” concentrated on understanding and developing key components of expository messages.

The second course, entitled “Redemptive Theology and Application,” focused on how to make sure such sermons remain true to the redemptive message of all Scripture by considering Biblical Theology principles as they apply to various texts and genres of Scripture. In this same course, we will explore how the gospel of grace revealed throughout Scripture motivates and empowers the Christian life.

In this third course of the series, entitled “Advanced Perspectives and Methods,” we will move beyond elementary expository structures and will consider how dependence on the Holy Spirit, sensitive use of creative forms, and powerful approaches to application will help us to address the listeners of our changing and challenging culture. It is the capstone course of the “Christ-Centered Preaching” series.

About Dr. Bryan Chapell

Dr. Bryan Chapell is pastor of the historic Grace Presbyterian Church, President Emeritus of Covenant Theological Seminary, and a faculty member of both national and international seminaries. He is an internationally renowned preacher, teacher, and speaker, and the author of many books, including Unlimited Grace, Each for the Other, Holiness by Grace, Praying Backwards, The Gospel According to Daniel, The Hardest Sermons You’ll Ever Have to Preach, Christ-centered Worship, and Christ-Centered Preaching, a preaching textbook now in multiple editions and many languages that has established him as one of this generation’s foremost teachers of homiletics. Dr. Chapell is passionate about sharing the truth and power of God's grace in his expository messages and in his pastoral training, since the grace of the gospel is the ultimate motivation and enablement for transformed lives of holiness and joy.

"Dr. Chapell is not only a highly effective homiletician, he is also a tremendous practitioner. He not only teaches preaching effectively, he can preach with tremendous effect! Once again, I am grateful for how this work has blessed my teaching ministry for nearly 25 years. I shudder to think what kind of homiletic pilgrimage I would have had if this book was not available to me almost a quarter of a century ago. "

Dr. Robert Smith, Jr.
Charles T. Carter Baptist, Chair of Divinity, Beeson Divinity School Samford University

"The mentoring Dr. Chapell has provided [me] has influenced my leadership more than any other homiletical seminar or principle I have ever experienced and has left its mark on our church. I am convinced that redemptive Christ-centered preaching is the greatest need in our churches today as we together serve the gospel and build the kingdom of God in our various contexts. "

Stephen Zarrilli
Executive Pastor of Campuses, Woodside Bible Church

"Dr. Bryan Chapell has provided a solid yet contemporary approach to expository preaching, something that is much needed in today's congregations. I share with him the belief that contemporary congregations are open to expository preaching models provided they are done well and with an emphasis on practical application. Chapell offers exactly such a model, and I recommend it with enthusiasm. In fact, I plan to use this material when I teach expository preaching."

Michael Duduit
Editor, Preaching

"I am favorably impressed. "

J.I. Packer
Professor Emeritus of Theology, Regent College

"Chapell is a thoughtful, balanced, and helpful guide to what expository preaching. . . can be, and needs to be again. Any seminarian or preacher, however long in the ministry, can profit. "

James M. Boice
Former pastor of Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia

"Christ is the message of preachers, and Dr. Bryan Chapell's teaching will enable preachers to lift him up in ways that will change lives. "

Steve Brown
professor of preaching, Reformed Theological Seminary

"Whether you're just starting out in Bible college or have been in the pulpit for many years, this seminal content. . . can help you grow in your preaching ministry. I know that my teaching and preaching ministry would not exist without the help of
Bryan Chapell. "

Julius J. Kim
Dean of Students and Professor of Practical Theology, Westminster Seminary, California
